Bioethanol and Biodiesel Environmental Report

by Nazgulinet » 05/01/08, 17:11

Hello everyone, I'm in 1ère S, and what made me post here is our TPE on biofuels.

Our problem is to show if biofuels are really a "green" resource?

We have already learned a little, and besides forum we have been of great use.

To complete our research, we would need some information, especially on Bioethanol and Biodiesel.

I found these figures regarding the amount of CO2 released by gasoline (3 653g) Bioethanol (922g) and Diester (888g). If you know these numbers can you tell me on what basis are they obtained? With what quantity of fuels at the beginning?
And what about the amount of CO2 released for the same energy provided by these three fuels?

Then I have a question that might seem stupid, because I have not found an answer or an article that could get closer to it during my little research:

What is the share of CO2 consumed by the photosynthesis of the crops used to make these two biofuels? And can this be considered as one of the elements to save CO2 through the use of biofuels?

And finally, do you know concrete examples that would justify the use of Bioethanol and Biodiesel? (Simply the direct consequences on our society)
For example: "10 cars that run on ETBE or bioethanol, equivalent to so many factories that no longer produce CO000 ..." (if we can express it that way).
Because we are criticized for giving only numbers without showing concretely what they represent ...

Thank you for enlightening us a little, and happy new year to all :P

Hi, you ask the question in the right place.
Already gives us the source of your figures and we can help you to see more clearly about the method ...

Then I advise you to look, for example, the following pages and documents:
https://www.econologie.com/biocarburants ... -3503.html
https://www.econologie.com/bilans-energe ... -3353.html
https://www.econologie.com/valorisation- ... -2985.html

Do not forget the internal search engine: https://www.econologie.com/forums/search.php

If not reason that on the CO2 is an incomplete and biased reasoning (you should point it out to your teachers if they only talked about CO2). Indeed: using petrochemical fertilizer does not release CO2 yet it consumes oil.

It is therefore necessary to reason in L of equivalent oil and not simply in CO2.

Here we have recently written a short story that should help you to see more clearly: https://www.econologie.com/ecobilan-des- ... -3567.html
Supplement here: https://www.econologie.com/forums/agrocarbur ... t4515.html

Thank you very much Christophe, I have not yet had the time to read them all, but the document on Energy Balance has already helped me a lot.
