I think I'm going to participate in this day (I participated in the 4ieme on fast growing plants in 2007: 4ème Rencontres de la Biomasse What resources for the biofuels of tomorrow? - 2007).

This will be interesting in the context of Laigret project! I will go on behalf of the association.

Hereby, the asbl ValBiom is pleased to invite you to the 6th Biomass Meetings entitled "Biorefining of lignocellulosic materials", which will take place on October 21, 2009 in Gembloux, Belgium.

We wish to invite to this event all those who near or far participate in development or are interested in biorefining.

Ay, I'm coming back from Gembloux! Waw, needed a level in (very) high biochemistry to follow everything! I did not understand 1 conference on 2 ... There were fewer people than 2007 day on fast growing plants (and because it was much more specific).

To summarize: 2nd generation biofuels (conversion of cellulose and lignin into ethanol) are, except "surprise", (very) far from being developed ...

I think they will not be competitive (with respect to gasoline) before 20 or 30 years. Opinions diverged today. For simplicity: the 2ieme generations will be on the horizon 2015 more expensive to produce (50 to 60 cents / L output biorafinery) than the 1ere generation which currently are already unprofitable without tax exemption ...

Other conferences concerning biomaterials based on lignin and cellulose to replace products of petroleum origin (solvent, polymer binder, bitumen, etc.) but here too high cost but some "good surprises".

I think cellulosic processing for bio-materials will come before the market as energy use!

As soon as the conferences are ready, I balance them ...

When you see their R&D budget .... if we had a 1/10 of it for Laigret, it would be a hit !! What am I saying: 1% would be enough !!!
