I love adapting all kinds of objects whose planned obsolescence is obvious and easy to circumvent.

I demonstrate it here in this small example, but there are all kinds of items that can be purchased and strengthened to make them last longer

Here is a hacking of this programmed obsolescence for Lidl 1st price mosquito net frames, or how to replace a metal element delivered with something sturdier.

These window mosquito nets are very good, except for one detail...

If the aluminum frames are perfect (double monobloc rigid profile)

the fixings leave something to be desired, in particular the metal tab with a small spring system, which holds the frame and secures it to the window, not even 1 mm thick and only 4 mm wide.

It is therefore a question of making prototypes (we aim for efficiency, the finish is rough, but the details are thus more visible)
So I took advantage of the spring system to make a metal hack that will withstand strong winds, without getting caught...

It is enough simply to make a groove with the cutter in the plastic, to allow the movement of the machined metal at the desired height:

To replace the sort of slide peg, I just took small squares that had to be machined with a grinder.

The machining and the length of the brackets depend on the type of window, making your own fasteners allows you to adapt everything!
Once finished, here, the new metal profile in place in its housing (the aluminum frame will imprison all that properly)

We go from 0,8 mm x 4 mm to 2,2 mm x 6 mm
Not only is it now perfectly solid, but the spring system is still put to good use!

For those who do not have a mental representation in 3D easily, I advise to report all your measurements on a plan.

Apart from this, the rest of the assembly does not change, except that we have a foolproof stowage...

The lifespan of non-hacked mosquito nets will last as long as it lasts (at the first somewhat violent current of air, they fly away)!

Design your “hacks” in a minimalist and simple way. What can hold with 3 screws, think about how to do with 2 screws, then with only one, or like here with no screws, we take advantage of the existing structure. I could have put brackets and screws, and that's it, but this solution has the advantage of being perfectly rigid (since it goes in the direction of the initial “self-locking” design. And I take advantage of the system at initial spring, which is very easy to assemble/disassemble for Obamette

And that's how, with little means, and a little imagination, we can always implement reinforcements to make the equipment last MUCH LONGER.
