Hey, the gas generates fine particles? I would be curious how much.

Calculations to estimate preventable deaths

To measure these diffuse effects, scientists seek to assess the life expectancy gained or the premature deaths that would be avoided if there were no pollution.

The method is based on a quantitative health impact assessment (EQIS) of air pollution, which is a consensus among specialists and at the level of the World Health Organization (WHO).

For the study published by Public Health France in 2016, the link between pollution and exposure to fine particles was established from information collected on “cohorts”, and in particular on the Gazel-air cohort, that is - say a group of 20 people followed by epidemiologists since the 000s.

Regardless of other factors linked to their lifestyle (smoking, being exposed to occupational risks, etc.), “the result shows, as in studies carried out for twenty years in Europe and North America, that the more people are exposed to fine particles, the more they die. This causal relationship is reflected in a statistical model, ”explains Mathilde Pascal, one of the authors of these studies.

The epidemiologists of Public Health France then collected the mortality by age group in all the municipalities in France as well as the concentrations of fine particles in the territory, by “grid” of 2 km per side. By applying the statistical model established from the French Gazel-air cohort, and the European Escape cohort - which establish a coefficient between exposure to pollution and mortality for all municipalities -, we can calculate the effects that a drop in the concentration of fine particles would have occurred in each municipality, region or throughout France. It is possible to count “preventable deaths” or gains in life expectancy at age XNUMX.

There is only methane in life! Butane propane lpg is not much better than gasoline ...

And yes natural gas can also burn badly ...

No combustion is perfect down here ...
Obviously there are some dirtier than others.

The absence of wood in the article shocks me more ... than this passage on gas ...

yes wood burning is indeed a problem:

RESTITUTION OF THE DECOMBIO STUDY ON POLLUTION IN THE ARVE VALLEY AND THE ARVE-PRE2A STUDY ON THE PERCEPTION OF THIS POLLUTION BY INHABITANTS.
......
It is difficult to summarize a 160-page study in a few lines (available on the Ademe website), but it clearly identifies the main cause of the overruns of European standards in our valley; it is the combustion of biomass, or in more secular terms, the combustion of firewood that poses a problem. According to the report on certain winters, wood heating constitutes between 60 and 70% of the mass of fine particles recorded for certain sites, far ahead of all other factors. Remember that it is mainly in winter that we exceed the European thresholds for fine particles. During the other seasons, the pollutants are mainly due to transport and the ammonia from the spraying but in non-alarming concentrations.

Well yes and if everyone still heated themselves with wood (logs) ... fine particle pollution in cities would be increased tenfold !!

But that should not be said to "die-hard ecologists ... clinging to some of their false beliefs" ...

Like believing that passing a city at 30 km / h reduces pollution ... while it increases it : Evil: : Evil: : Evil:

As with gas (we mentioned a possible bad combustion), when we read the report we can realize that it is not the wood the main culprit, but the heating devices which are obsolete and should be replaced, a fireplace being the worst way to heat yourself. In addition, wood heating is efficient if (in addition to efficient equipment) and only if the wood is very dry, which is rarely the case. A Corsican friend told me that at home (in the village) the old people put two dry logs for a green one because (they said) "it heats up longer" ... : Mrgreen:

Not stupid these Corsicans! Since in the end it will heat very well and very strongly with the fireplace and the rest of the house ... and that can even solve the worries of pensions! : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:
