We are a bit far from gardening but this evening for the 1st time I heard the song of an insect ... impossible to identify it

Also impossible to record it with the means at hand so I will try to describe it

In fact it is not so much a song, in any case not at all a continuous cricket style song.

It is rather a kind of single beep and quite sharp but not strident which repeats itself every X seconds (about 5 on average)

Oddly enough it reminds me of Caribbean nights ...

Insect or batrachian? You were talking about the West Indies, "not so far from there", there is Guyana and there are tiny frogs doing this kind of "cry / song" down there. They are very difficult to locate (their ratio (deciBel / size) is impressive). We must have the equivalent at home !?
