Drones in agriculture?

by Grandaddy » 04/08/15, 11:31

We hear more and more about drones (as well as the controversies they cause ...), but I did not know that they were also going to invade agriculture!
Apparently, some drones are already used by some farmers to assess the needs of the plots: http://www.huffingtonpost.fr/2015/02/21 ... 18778.html

However, given the price that a drone costs (up to € 50 depending http://www.netactus.fr/la-technologie/2 ... lisations/) I do not think that democratization is for now ... maybe for later?

In intensive agriculture ... How many farmers do not even have a single tractor any more ... All the work itself is outsourced ... Or at least the purchase of large machines shared

And 50k € is nothing at all for most farmers today ...

I remember well the 1st tractors with visualization of the plots by GPS and various infos (input, output, history ...) ... the drones are one more step towards the electronisation of agriculture.

If it allows to optimize with less chemicals, I say yes!

In any case, it will be interesting to see how the use of drones (agricultural and others) evolves in the years to come.
50 €, that seemed a lot to me, but I probably don't realize enough about the budget available to farmers ... The use of agricultural drones will perhaps rather be made available to cooperatives, right?

See also how these agricultural drones will be tolerated in the airspace, which is already quite restrictive on drones, see: https://www.econologie.com/forums/paranoaia- ... 13778.html

(last year's "flyovers" of nuclear power plants https://www.econologie.com/forums/drones-cen ... 13553.html strongly accelerated restrictive legislation ... to wonder who really controlled them ... : Mrgreen: )

I was overflown by a professional drone (a guy who was doing the canvassing of his activity) during a climbing assignment in a natural site (but it was not me who was climbing) ... The noise is hellish .. The sumptuous images (but the video he sent us is full of ads) ... For a long time EDF (well yes it's been so long since they changed their name) has been monitoring HT lines at helicopter with on-board hd cameras and coie ... A drone at 50 and its around 000 € per hour of operation is nothing next to a helicopter ...

It is clear that the drone market is directly dependent on the legislation, and in the current context, it will not necessarily play in favor of a relaxation ... afterwards, the market is growing so large that they will find well a compromise I think.

It must be weird to be overflown by a drone : Mrgreen: it hasn't happened to me yet ...

The compromise is easy to establish: the legislative brake will serve to consolidate a monopoly reserved for a small number of companies which will control the market ...

Unfortunately, it's a classic ...

If not for those interested, I found a rather nice infographic about drones: http://www.dronevolt.com/content/12-les ... s-du-drone
Apparently, agriculture is the second sector where drones are used the most! Note that the evolution of turnover in the drone market since 2012 is quite impressive ...
