Egalim law: the Constitutional Council censors several environmental provisions

You really have to watch over everything, I discovered this today: it is not good news it seems to me

By a decision of October 25, 2018, the Constitutional Council censured 23 articles of the law for the balance of trade relations in the agricultural sector (Egalim) for procedural reasons. The text had been adopted last October 2 by the National Assembly but had been the subject of an appeal of the senators LR.

Among the provisions declared contrary to the Constitution, several concern the environment:

Article 12 on a government report on payments for environmental services
article 32 on environmental labeling for oysters
Article 33 on a government report on the shelf life of food products
article 37 on the promotion of products that have not contributed to imported deforestation
article 43 on the labeling of honey composed of mixtures
article 49 on a government report on the definition of imported deforestation and ways to reduce it
Article 56 on the representation of environmental protection associations in the national committees of the National Institute of Origin and Quality
Article 78 relating to the transfer for consideration of varieties of seeds in the public domain
article 86 on the integration of biodiversity and soil conservation in agricultural education.

The sages considered these provisions to be legislative riders, that is to say, having no link, even indirect, with the initial bill.

It is therefore very sad to be still in a state of law!
