I bought my potatoes at the farmer's (Belgium)

by the middle » 02/12/12, 08:13

Hello,
The result of this purchase puzzles me.
In solidarity, I went to a farmer's house to buy him 50 kg of potatoes.
When I got home, I compared the prices of this farmer with the local supermarket.
Identical prices : Shock:
Unwashed potatoes (it keeps better)
It seems that the farmer's potatoes are not preservative powder.
Sale without invoice ... mouai ...
No sanitary control
(see info this morning) ...

I looked at the provenance of my super market potatoes .. France ... :D weird, there are no potatoes in belgium?
Not serious all that ...

Economically, you have lost nothing and the farmer has earned more than his usual poor rotten commission. 8) So this is a good action, and it saves liters of oil for intermediate transport.

Afterwards, for health, it would be necessary to know if these potatoes are contaminated. You could ask him who he usually sells to.

“Afterwards, for health, we should know if these potatoes are contaminated. You could ask him to whom he usually sells” and see if they have survived: it's a good test! : Mrgreen:

In your fair link you have to read
Traces higher than the norm herbicide products were indeed found during a routine check.

Because there are always traces of phyto products on fruits and vegetables ...

You still won a few trips to the supermarket because I don't think we find 50kg there ...

Super market ?, my wife goes there every 3 days, the 5 kg bags are clean, lighter, unlike the farmer (my dirty pants, the trunk of the dirty car ...
Really, if it is not to please a farmer, I do not see the interest, it takes win win
In addition, blackmailing a farmer with money is not a good solution. (this farmer must earn a living, without cheating)
Otherwise, in terms of energy gain, the benefit is enormous! (I speak ecologically)No intermediary, no plastic packaging, no pine perlimpin powder to preserve the potato etc.
As soon as I have time, I will find this farmer and talk about it.

Slut,

it is still expensive your agrico;), here the organic potato I touch it at 0.9 ct euros / kilo;) (and at 0.9 my dear farmer is very happy;)) against 2.0 euro / kg at the organic coop.
Even cheaper you will give him your hand during the pickup, you will have money and in addition you come to glean at the end balance sheet you have potatoes for the year in general with the gleaning and you have a little money too ;).

So your farmer is full of excavations, this says better than it is in his own than three quarters for the supermarket;), now nothing prevents you from asking him how he cultivates his potatoes and what 'it uses as products.

In terms of cleanliness, when you have washed a potato in the last rinse bath have put anti-germinative (and it keeps much less time once washed.

Same for carrots;).
