as I need a brushcutter, I fell in love with a model like this:

and use the blade vertically (I will also take protections of course)
Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
Re: Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
Speaking of an electric knife, I've looked two or three times on leboncoin to see if there is a cheap knife ... It was one of those "useless" gifts and it drags the cupboards full of them, so the flea markets ...

Re: Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
After several tests, the universal blade with fine teeth seems to me to work best. it hangs less.
The blade measures 22 cm I could saw a thick layer without problem.
Now, with 3 slats, I saw the middle one on both sides, I remove it, and remove the hay leaving the two side slats.

Re: Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
Has anyone tried to open furrows with a hedge trimmer?
Is this a satisfactory solution?
Advantages disadvantages ?

Or if not what is the solution you use personally?
My only constraint is: no electrical device without battery
What do you like ???

Re: Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
The other method I have never read is to "discard" the hay by hand online ....... too tedious?

@ Did67: Have you finally been able to try the electric knife, because it's true, I find plenty on the right corner for a budget varying between 5 and 15 €!
If not which method / tool do you prefer to make a furrow in your hay?

Re: Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
Yes. I bought a generic (without brand) on sale.
It's a total flop. You have to "push" too hard for it to advance. I give the mechanism cheap. I stopped before I shot him!
As for dismissing, I think many have tried. Including my wife. It is going "more or less well". The main flaw: the hay tends to regain its position and close the furrow. Or you open "very wide" - with the disadvantage that where it does not regain its position, weeds benefit.
NB: Peas are large seeds, which have a certain capacity to pierce a layer of hay. There, even if it closes a bit, that will not prevent the installation (I "planted" bean seeds at planters in hay without crisscrossing, with about 50% success - roughly one seed in duex).

Re: Cut the hay with an electric saber saw.
I went to the transformed brushcutter (I recently reported an offer found in my DIY store: a Hyundai HDBT 32 at € 69; easy to transform because the pole is in two pieces, with a connector; just drill a hole and turn the terminal end 90 °; I do not know if the offer exists in all the stores of this chain).

I will try it soon !!!! (if it continues to get hotter!).
