Absolutely! I used polystyrene tubs (well I think) recovered from the fishmonger's department to make my terrines ... Although quite thick, what was my surprise to find my "rooted" tubs ...

What I'm talking about has the texture of a sponge, nothing to do with fishmonger's crates (the foam cells are open, those of the crate closed).

Bingo: I am. Sorry, I took a bit long. I think it's the type of cellular "foam" that we sometimes see used as an air filter in our machines (or protect the filter when it comes to real paper filters). And of which we find, in fact, "thick sheets" as protective materials ...

I think we were both wrong: it's probably polyether (same as cheap mattresses).

Polyurethane foams are much thinner and more "resistant". It would break if you circled a branch.

Ditto for polystyrene, which we see that they are "balls" attached ...

There you have it! I talked about polyurethane, because it is under this name that I knew this material in horticultural use (with competent people, but who could still be wrong (?)) ...
In Wikipedia, however, it is mentioned that a method of applying Polyurethane would be, I quote: "Flexible foams (which) are particularly used in furniture (seats of seats and sofas) ...".

Managing the shape and height only by size is probably possible as long as someone who knows and likes to prune stays in control, but that poses concern as soon as there is transmission of the trees: not sure that the following will want or will . So overall the trees may end up under the teeth of a chainsaw at the request of the town hall, we are not more advanced in terms of longevity :(

Yes, yes ... But to my knowledge, it's these much denser, often yellowish, "molded" foams - if you de-bone a car seat, you'll see it's a lot denser ...

To be honest, what excites me the most in gardening (excluding the vegetable patch) is creation, or more modestly, multiplication.

Unfortunately it will still take me a few months before I can indulge in this "madness" of reproduction and cuttings when the garden chalet is emptied of its mess and transformed into a nursery

I get this gel by soaking bits of weeping willow branches in water.
it makes rootlets, the water oxidizes and turns into a gel full of hormones.
it replaces, in some cases, the cutting hormone which is not very organic.

Good to know...

Yes, I know what you mean and you are probably right. For my "defense", plastics are numerous, difficult to differentiate and the same material comes in very varied forms, depending on the uses ... : roll:

Subscription offer to "Fruits et Abeilles"

This magazine of the Union of Associations of Arboriculturalists (amateurs) and Beekeeping of Alsace-Moselle, in which I write, offers a "gift" subscription for 25 € for the 11 issues of 2018 (Metropolitan France).

I scan the order form (to be returned in principle before December 18).

If you are interested, send me an email address by "mp" and I will forward it to you.

In case of difficulty, I am able to intervene ...
