High-performance plastic sorting facility in the Netherlands

By the editorial staff, April 21, 2016

Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions, manufacturer of turnkey recycling solutions and recycling equipment, has just completed the installation of the most efficient sorting facility for plastics in the Netherlands with a capacity exceeded by more than 50 %.

Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions has set up an innovative and fully automated modular recycling unit. The facility's capacity targets were exceeded by more than 50%. Thus, it provides around 7 tonnes / hour of perfectly sorted plastics. This allows Daly Plastics to reach the final objective: the production of a very pure aggregate, reused as raw material for new quality products. Another advantage of this installation: if the supply of materials to be sorted changes, the installation can easily be converted and adapted without incurring high costs.

The installation consists of a crusher, after which the product is freed of all ferrous elements, then freed of small impurities such as sand, using ballistic separators, the Elliptical screens of Lubo Systems bv (subsidiary of the Bollegraaf group). Then follows the separation according to types and possibly colors using optical scanning, followed if necessary by manual quality control. The product is then treated by a baler to obtain homogeneous bales. After this process, reprocessing continues to the finished product via an innovative Drd dry cleaning and granulation system.

Note that Lubo Elliptical screens are used to separate 2D from 3D materials. The mesh of the grids on the pallets is easily adaptable to obtain a custom screening.

making pavers with recycled plastic is a false good idea: these pavers will have a limited lifespan and will fall apart by putting polluting plastic particles in nature, which float in water

get rid of plastics to make energy and save oil seems better to me

my preferred solution is gasification (gasifier) this 2-stage combustion has a big advantage over direct combustion
1) it's not only heat but gas which turns an internal combustion engine and gives a good return towards electricity
2) it can burn pvc without producing dioxin
3) filtering and neutralizing acids in the gas is easier than in an incineration because there is no CO2 in the gas and the volume of gas to be treated is considerably lower than the amount of smoke

it is really the solution for the future and it already exits large plants of this type ... it is currently ridiculous to build conventional incineration plants since gasification has all the advantages
