Electric car and battery: state of the art and synthesis in 2021

It is very complete but rather general public so at times quite light in the scientific explanations (excluding sources so see the sources for more info, link below).

This is information up to date in 2021 so I will share it with you 8) (nothing already for Guy and all the others who think that Lithium is an ecological disaster ...). I haven't looked at everything yet.

In this video, I'm talking about the electric car. After a small point on transport, we are interested in the questions raised by batteries. Do not hesitate to use the time marks to find your way there:

0:00 • Introduction
2:10 • CO2 emissions from transport
5:34 • Why change transport
10:19 • What alternatives to petroleum and electricity?
11:57 • What is an electric car?
13:38 • What is a battery?
17:14 • Geological limits to the deployment of batteries?
21:00 • Lithium & petroleum, similar problems?
22:31 • Unconventional metal resources?
25:05 • The possibility of substitution
26:38 • Rapid evolution of batteries
27:45 • Ecological impacts of mining
37:43 • Battery life
41:23 • Lifespan of the electric vehicle
43:25 • Second life for the batteries?
45:01 • Battery recycling
51:12 • Producing batteries in Europe?
54:55 • Open mines in France and in Europe?
58:45 • Rare earths
1:01:45 • Conclusion
1:03:28 • Outro

What would man do that would not be a disaster?
Graze?

He is crazy ! Grazing that makes methane! : Mrgreen:

But basically I agree with you: bastards of ecologists, always seeing the harm! : Cheesy:

The transition (or return) to the LFP is the big trend of the year 2021.

The LiFePO4 (iron based) battery has all the advantages except that it is a little heavier. But curiously, a Tesla made in the USA (NCA or NMC) weighs roughly the same weight as a Tesla made in China with LFP techno. (they both have the same autonomy)
LFP techno makes it possible to cover more km and above all does not use rare metals (2 km with 000 cycles and 000 km of autonomy).

Tesla will switch from NMC to LFP on all cars except "long range" and "performance". It will lower the pressure on Nickel.
Chinese manufacturers are at the LFP, while the Germans are (for now) at the NMC.

Here are the forecasts according to the technologies:
