For Renault, electric vehicles will weigh more than 10% of the auto market in 2025

Posted on 07 / 03 / 2017 New Factory
Reuters GENEVA news

The new boss of the diamond brand electric vehicle estimated Tuesday, March 7, on the sidelines of the Geneva International Motor Show, that the share of electric vehicles on the market could represent more than 10% by 2025.

Renault considers plausible that electric vehicles will represent more than 10% of the automobile market in 2025, driven by the improvement in battery performance and by the tougher traffic conditions in the city center. During the presentation in 2010 of a vast program of zero emission vehicles, the CEO Carlos Ghosn had assured that the market would weigh 10% in 2020. But a slower than expected deployment of charging infrastructure and gas prices too low to encourage the rapid abandonment of thermal engines had gradually led the CEO of Renault to abandon this forecast.

On the strength of this experience, the new boss of the diamond group's electric vehicle, Gilles Normand, plays caution between the most reserved and the most optimistic forecasts for 2025. "I don't know where the balance will go in the end. , but if I take an average medium, it will probably be in double digits, what a precise percentage I can't say, "he said in an interview with Reuters.

The inflection point arrives

Yet the period seems again favorable for the electric, with double-digit increases in France and in Europe, and a market share which begins to count. According to the latest figures from Avere, the registratio
ns of electric cars in the Hexagon climbed 19,6% in February, giving a market share of 1,4%, against less than 1% for several years in a row. “The inflection point is clearly happening,” added Gilles Normand.

Starting first with a full range, Renault intends to retain the advantage in the face of competing offers that are expected to increase over the next few years. To liven up the news of its electric bestseller Zoé, whose range has just been extended to 300 kilometers in real driving (400 km in an approved cycle), the group presents in Geneva a sporty version of its city car, lowered with gaping air inlets, two electric motors and more beastly acceleration than a circuit formula.

The Renault group at the forefront

The group also continues to expand its range. In the small car segment, it is preparing a low cost electric offer for China. It has also extended the autonomy of its electric Kangoo van - now fitted with an LG battery instead of Nissan technology, a sensitive subject within the alliance - and will launch an electric Master.

This large van must meet the needs of logistics companies that run vehicles in closed warehouses and those of transport companies that want to be able to deliver the last few kilometers in the city center, regardless of the traffic restrictions imposed.

Alstom and its subsidiary NTL target the electric bus market with its Aptis prototype

Published 09 / 03 / 2017

Alstom presented its new prototype developed with its subsidiary NTL, on March 9, in Duppigheim (Bas-Rhin). Called Aptis, it is an electric bus similar to a tram on tires. It must be tested in the Paris region this year.

"It is an exemplary collaboration between Alstom and its subsidiary NTL which made it possible to develop this project in 15 months", underlined Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO of Alstom during the presentation of the Aptis prototype on 9 March in Duppigheim (Bas-Rhin). This vehicle differs from electric bus offers by its design, which brings it closer to a tramway on tires, a specialty of NTL.

"This vehicle is designed from the start as an electric bus and not as a converted diesel engine bus", insisted Franck Lamanna, Director of Product Strategy & Innovation at NTL. It is in the Alsatian factory that the prototypes will be manufactured which will be used for the tests scheduled in 2017, particularly in the Paris region. The site intended for the industrial production of Aptis remains to be decided, the amount of the agreed and future investments has not been communicated. With this prototype, Alstom is targeting a share of some 7 electric buses to be supplied in Europe each year up to [… subscribers]

The device, which weighs 200 kg, has eight electric motors (each arm carries two opposite) developing 106 kW (in its first configuration, anyway), and can carry a person, who will have to somewhat contort to access the cockpit. This one does not have any command allowing to direct the apparatus because it is indeed a drone. The passenger can indicate his destination; for the rest, he relies on the Ehang 184 whose route will be followed by a ground control center. The drone-taxi can operate at 100 km / h and 300 meters above sea level, for a flight autonomy of 23 minutes maximum.

The aircraft manufacturer Airbus presented “Pop.Up”, a concept of a fully electric flying car capable of traveling 100 km / h in the air.

Airbus caused a sensation Tuesday at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show. The French aircraft manufacturer has unveiled a modular, autonomous, fully electric flying car prototype that would not release any gram of CO2 into the atmosphere. Called “Pop.Up”, the vehicle was designed in partnership with the Italian designer Italdesign to “reduce congestion in busy megacities”, explains Airbus in a press release.

To be able to take off and thus avoid road traffic on the ground, the car is equipped with new technology. It comes in the form of a capsule 2,6 meters long by 1,4 meters wide in which two people can sit. In "classic" car mode, this capsule is placed on a chassis, itself powered by a 60kW electric motor. And when the traffic becomes dense and congested, the capsule is able to detach from it to receive an air module of five meters, powered by eight rotors. According to its technical characteristics, "Pop.Up" could advance at 100 km / h in the air for a range of 100 km.

Fully autonomous steering

To travel, the passenger enters the destination of their choice in a dedicated application and the car starts to move on its own. No need for a pilot's license or a driving license. The operating mode of Pop.Up is simple: passengers plan their journey and book their trip via a user-friendly application. The system automatically suggests the best transport solution - based on user knowledge, timetables, traffic congestion, costs, carpooling requests, etc. - connecting the air or land module, or other means of transport, to the passenger capsule according to his preferences and needs, "said Airbus. This implies that his prototype could be used as a new generation taxi.

He had already announced last July that Tesla intended to manufacture a freight transport truck and a vehicle to replace city buses.

“In addition to private vehicles, there are two other kinds of electric vehicles required: large trucks and high passenger density urban transport. Both are in the early stages of development at Tesla and should be ready for unveiling. 'next year,' Elon Musk wrote in a message posted on Tesla's website.

why such a badly placed driving position? far behind the windshield to reduce visibility ... far from the left to reduce visibility in the rear view mirror?

why when they make an electric vehicle they do the opposite of what is classic? truck or bus we put the driver in the right place ... except minivan cars which have the same driver problem too far behind the windshield ... and like minivans it's modern, now we make buses as bad as people carriers

The BMW i3 queen of carsharing in Hamburg

12/05/2017 - An unexpected position.

Image

With DriveNow, the car-sharing service resulting from the partnership between the BMW group and the rental company Sixt, the city of Hamburg already has a fleet of 70 electric BMW i3s. This therefore seems already important, but we have to believe that demand is very strong, since the fleet will be enlarged to 200 i3 by the end of the year, and further increased next year, to achieve the stated objective. 400 electric cars in 2019.

150 plug-in hybrids will also join the service, while the city of Hamburg will extend its charging infrastructure, bringing it to 1150 charging stations. Because while DriveNow's numbers are very impressive, he is not alone on the track. car2go is also in Hamburg, with electric Smart Fortwos, and various Mercedes. We see all the difference with Paris, where the town hall granted a monopoly without division to Bolloré and its Autolib ... The city of Hamburg created the conditions so that there is a healthy competition between the actors, and while waiting for the car2go's answer, today is DriveNow which wants the first place in carsharing in Hamburg.
