In preparation its strategic shift towards electromobility, carmaker Daimler AG plans to invest 1 billion euros to quadruple its battery production capacity. Construction works for a second production facility at the company's Kamenz campus have started.

The battery factory will be operated by Daimler subsidiary Deutsche Accumotive GmbH. During the recent Paris motor show, Daimler announced its future electromobility brand, labeled EQ. The brand will embrace a comprehensive ecosystem of products, services, and technologies. A first series model with a driving range of up to 500 km is scheduled to hit the roads before the end of the decade.

The new production line in Kamenz will start series production in mid-2018. It will manufacture lithium ion traction batteries for all electrified vehicles for the Daimler brands Mercedes-Benz and Smart as well as 48V batteries and batteries for stationary energy storage facilities (although it also can be expected that used traction batteries will also fed into this business

The new Nissan engine was expected! The Nissan Note has a new electric motorization accompanied by a range extender, the e-Power. This new battery has a motorization derived from the Nissan Leaf, but the electric motorization system is combined with a small petrol engine. The e-Power system is available on the Nissan Note, a model that is no longer produced in Europe.

The external battery is a simple booster motor, which is therefore not directly connected to the wheels. Only the electric motor drives the vehicle. This back-up generator is only used to recharge the electric motor. Thanks to this booster motor, the car no longer needs to have an external connection to recharge the electric battery.



If Nissan does not specify any figures for the power of the vehicle or its consumption, the manufacturer announces that they should be close to those of a hybrid of comparable size. It's interesting it's different versions of hybrid vehicles!

If I understood correctly there are currently 3 forms of hybridization:

1 °) either a dual propulsion petrol + electricity which works successively as needed, the 2 motors being connected to the wheels,

2 °) either a propulsion only electric motor, with a auxiliary petrol engine to generate electricity only to power the electric motor,

3 °) either a propulsion only electric motor, with a auxiliary petrol engine to generate electricity only to charge or recharge the batteries.


Is there a comparison of these 3 hybridization modes? Advantages / disadvantages of one compared to the others.

Do we have data concerning the output, the autonomy, the cost price per km, the purchase price, etc? ...

Daimler plans to invest up to € 10 billion in the development of electric vehicles, said the head of research and development for the German automaker.

"By 2025, we want to develop 10 electric cars from a single structure," said Thomas Weber, quoted in the Saturday edition of the German newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung.

"For this effort, we want to invest up to 10 billion euros," he added.

Thomas Weber clarified that three of these models would be of the Smart brand and that, thanks to larger batteries, their range would be increased to 700 kilometers.

A spokesperson for Daimler also said Friday that the manufacturer would continue to market diesel vehicles in the United States, unlike Volkswagen, which admitted to having manipulated the tests on the pollutant emissions of its diesel engines on the American market.

Porsche anticipates for Mission E, its first electric car, annual sales of around 20.000 copies, writes the weekly Automobilwoche.

"We have calculated a quantity of around 20.000 for Mission E," Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche, told the weekly Automobilwoche.

Porsche, the second largest contributor to the Volkswagen group's profits, plans to create at least 1.400 jobs to develop, build and sell this Tesla Model S competitor to be launched in 2019.
