Laying of the "first stone" of the Kamenz lithium ion battery factory for Daimler, which will cost € 500 million.
Commissioning scheduled for mid 2018.

Daimler to establish global battery production network

October 25, 2016 // By Christoph Hammerschmidt

In preparation its strategic shift towards electromobility, carmaker Daimler AG plans to invest 1 billion euros to quadruple its battery production capacity. Construction works for a second production facility at the company's Kamenz campus have started.

The battery factory will be operated by Daimler subsidiary Deutsche Accumotive GmbH. The battery factory in Kamenz will cost about 500 million euros. expanding the production capacity Besides in Kamenz (Saxony), Daimler also plans to assign the role of a global battery competence center to that campus.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Daimler board member Thomas Weber who oversees the company's R&D activities detailed the carmakers plans to roll out a fleet of battery electric vehicles. By 2025, the company will offer more than ten battery electric models in its product spectrum, Weber said, adding that in parallel the company plans to expand its plug-in hybrid model line and push the introduction of 48V systems.

During the recent Paris motor show, Daimler announced its future electromobility brand, labeled EQ. The brand will embrace a comprehensive ecosystem of products, services, and technologies. A first series model with a driving range of up to 500 km is scheduled to hit the roads before the end of the decade.

The new production line in Kamenz will start series production in mid-2018. It will manufacture lithium ion traction batteries for all electrified vehicles for the Daimler brands Mercedes-Benz and Smart as well as 48V batteries and batteries for stationary energy storage facilities (although it also can be expected that used traction batteries will also fed into this business

after the "VW scandal" the German automotive sector launches into the electric BRAVO
just a question: in Germany, how are they going to produce electricity? coal? , peat? , Russian gas?
or the wind? rebirth of "sand" sailing (nostalgia, when you hold us)

Nissan Note e-Power combines electric motor and range extender

Léna Corot Usine Nouvelel on 03/11/2016 AT 11:21 AM

No need for an external connection to recharge the engine. The new hybrid car from Nissan has a brand new engine, e-Power: the electric motor, derived from the Leaf, is coupled to a range extender running on gasoline.

Image

The new Nissan engine was expected! The Nissan Note has a new electric motorization accompanied by a range extender, the e-Power. This new battery has a motorization derived from the Nissan Leaf, but the electric motorization system is combined with a small petrol engine. The e-Power system is available on the Nissan Note, a model that is no longer produced in Europe.

The external battery is a simple booster motor, which is therefore not directly connected to the wheels. Only the electric motor drives the vehicle. This back-up generator is only used to recharge the electric motor. Thanks to this booster motor, the car no longer needs to have an external connection to recharge the electric battery.

Image

If Nissan does not specify any figures for the power of the vehicle or its consumption, the manufacturer announces that they should be close to those of a hybrid of comparable size. Nissan even claims that its new vehicle has a smaller battery than the Leaf, but the same horsepower. The car is also advertised as being as quiet as a "normal" electric. And, with the engines located under the front seats of the car, the interior volume of the Nissan Note is completely preserved.

It's interesting it's different versions of hybrid vehicles!

If I understood correctly there are currently 3 forms of hybridization:

1 °) either a dual propulsion petrol + electricity which works successively as needed, the 2 motors being connected to the wheels,

2 °) either a propulsion only electric motor, with a auxiliary petrol engine to generate electricity only to power the electric motor,

3 °) either a propulsion only electric motor, with a auxiliary petrol engine to generate electricity only to charge or recharge the batteries.

Is there a comparison of these 3 hybridization modes? Advantages / disadvantages of one compared to the others.

Do we have data concerning the output, the autonomy, the cost price per km, the purchase price, etc? ...

The promotions are over:

Tesla: future owners will have to pay to fill up

Maxime Amiot The 07/11/2016 Les Echos

Owners who have ordered their vehicle after January 1, 2017 will have to pay for their recharge after a certain level of consumption. A real change of economic course.

A change of era for Tesla fans. The American specialist in the electric car announced Monday on its website that its future buyers will now have to pay to use its superchargers, which allow recharging on public roads. Motorists who have ordered their car after January 1, 2017 will have to pay a package whose price is not yet known, but which could fluctuate depending on the time of day and the geographic area with a cost of l variable electricity. The amount will be "low" promises Tesla, less than a full tank of gas. Note that this grid will only apply after 400 kWh of annual recharging, i.e. around 1600 km of road. Owners who bought a Tesla before January 1 can continue to charge for free.

The announcement is a real change in business model for Tesla. So far, the Elon Musk group has allowed its users to benefit from a free home network of more than 734 stations, the size of which will be doubled by 2017, to more than 1.200 stations and 3.600 terminals. A key advantage, because these terminals, with a power of 120 kw can recharge in just 30 minutes. This network has largely enabled the group to seduce buyers by removing the fear of breakdown, the number one brake on the electric car.

If the group is changing its strategy today, it is because it has moved into high gear. Difficult to deliver free electricity to a Tesla fleet that will significantly increase with the arrival, from 2018, of the Model 3 a compact car at a more affordable price than the Model S and X. While it should sell around 80.000 cars this year, Tesla is targeting 500.000 units in 2018. The manufacturer, which is still not profitable on an annual basis, can no longer play the moguls indefinitely, while it must both develop its network, invest on its new projects - development of the range, acquisition of Solarcity, batteries .... - while facing increasing competition from German premiums. It remains to be seen whether the announcement of the day will encourage buyers to recharge at home, or even to advance their purchase to continue to benefit from free lifetime network.

Daimler wants to invest 10 billion euros in electric cars

LE 25/11/2016 NEWS REUTERS FRANKFURT

Daimler plans to invest up to € 10 billion in the development of electric vehicles, said the head of research and development for the German automaker.

"By 2025, we want to develop 10 electric cars from a single structure," said Thomas Weber, quoted in the Saturday edition of the German newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung.

"For this effort, we want to invest up to 10 billion euros," he added.

Thomas Weber clarified that three of these models would be of the Smart brand and that, thanks to larger batteries, their range would be increased to 700 kilometers.

A spokesperson for Daimler also said Friday that the manufacturer would continue to market diesel vehicles in the United States, unlike Volkswagen, which admitted to having manipulated the tests on the pollutant emissions of its diesel engines on the American market.

Bonus extended to utilities: satisfaction of defenders of electric

AFPle 10 Dec 2016

Electric mobility supporters expressed satisfaction on Saturday after the announcement by Ségolène Royal of the extension to commercial vehicles of a bonus for the purchase of zero emission vehicles and the abandonment of an old diesel. The Minister of the Environment has formalized, after four days of alternating traffic in Ile-de-France due to a pollution peak, "the extension of the conversion bonus of 10 euros to commercial vehicles, including taxis ".

This bonus, called "superbonus", applied since April 2015 to buyers of electric passenger cars, through the scrapping of an old vehicle running on diesel, currently over ten years old. "For us it was a measure that was important to take as part of supporting the development of restricted traffic areas," the secretary general of the National Association for the Development of electric mobility (Avere-France), Marie Castelli.

The electric Renault Kangoo increases its range to 270 km

Sat 10/12/2016 - Further, stronger.

Image

The Renault Kangoo ZE had been launched before the Zoé, but while the compact electric has already received a new engine and a new battery, the Kangoo ZE had not evolved. Its time has finally come. Well almost, since it is only in January that the full characteristics of the new Kangoo ZE will be revealed.

We only know for the moment the most important figure: an autonomy which goes from 170 to 270 km. But Renault added that it's not just the battery that changes, the engine too. And it's quite normal. It makes sense to rationalize production. The Zoé is available with 2 engines, and the Kangoo engine is not exactly the same as that of the original Zoé engine. We imagine that the Kangoo will adopt the engine that appeared on the Zoé in 2015, but we can ask the question of whether the Caméléon charger will be associated with it. We bet yes, at least optional. All the details on January 13, at the Brussels show.
