I have a friend who has an open circuit Rotex system, it has been working for 8 or 9 years without problems: metals, copper (sensors), stainless steel (balloon coils).
I have been using mine for 3 years.
So would it seem that the nature of metals is responsible?

Drainback solar panel clogged with brown powder?
The DHW tank for central heating has a heat exchanger (coil or external tank in the case of an annular tank) in raw steel. Only the inside of the tank, in contact with sanitary water, is enamelled.
The central heating circuits are mainly in closed circuit with expansion tank, resulting in limited internal corrosion.
For use in self-draining solar, one or more solutions must be implemented to limit the supply of oxygen to the circuit.
Certain additives can limit oxidation, but isn't it simpler to seal the circuit?

Re: Drainback solar panel clogged with brown powder?
Hello,
I am sharing with you my technique for cleaning my drainback solar installations: I use compressed air. At the level of the tank, I purge everything possible from the primary circuit then blow a blower in the return pipe (in the opposite direction of the fluid). Be careful, you have to make small jolts to observe how it cleans up. If cork, it comes out, that's for sure. At the end of the operation, everything is clean inside, there is more to fill. I picked up several like this. No need to climb on the roof, it happens at the connections of the balloon. To be done in the morning before the liquid is hot. If it's really clogged, try the other way, otherwise do the manipulation on the roof. Be careful, in this case when the cap comes out, it squirts very black all over the roof. But hey, it's for a good cause... You have to rinse that's all.
