An idea that I recently had to avoid the evaporation of water in a volume of dead water (for example a solar buffer) not necessarily 100% waterproof: use a non-volatile liquid which would float on the surface of the water .... it is surely already done in the industrial environment but with what type of products?
We can obviously think of vegetable oil but I am afraid that the duration over time is not top ... and promotes bacterial development.
What do you think?
Avoid evaporation of water with oil?

Do not confuse paraffin oil with paraffin.
To answer Christophe's question, we find this
oil in pharmacies or among others at Fontaine-Beauvois Lodelinsart - Charleroi.
Regarding the thickness of the film, I would say from 1 to 2 mm
history that it covers the entire surface.
Very well your cutting ... It seems that your hand is greener than
me . There is nothing to say it thrives well in your garden.

Well, I didn't do much, I followed your registration that's all. Maybe the soil is good (it was a nettle corner -> natural nettle compost) I think the nearby stream has something to do with it too! And the summer is pretty bad too ...
Ok and thanks for the oil, I'm going to check this out for a try.

It is not at all sure that this is the quick fix: in the cutting oil recovery tanks, the oil-water mixture can ferment or rot! I think that additional precautions should be taken:
- 100% mineral oil
- disinfectant
- regular water rise above 60 ° C
So be careful!
