Idea of sensor

by falcon1208 » 04/09/17, 01:19

Hello,

For a long time I have been thinking of building a thermal sensor using alveolar polycarbonate and I wonder if anyone has ever tried the operation.

Hello,

you have to be wary like the plague of great ideas that no one has ever thought of. Especially if you haven't experienced them yourself. Human beings learn a lot by imitation: walking, smiling, talking etc ... have you ever seen something close to your idea? was it working to satisfaction with regard to the means invested?

This has already been thought through and done ...

The concerns with the use of polycarbonate in solar thermal panels are:

- UV resistance (treated but only on 1 surface generally therefore not to be mistaken),
- Sealing at the ends of the panels,
- The temperature resistance over time (80-90 ° of water in summer ...)
- Pressure resistance (if not drainback, see: Solar-thermal / solar-system-to-drain-drainback-why-c-is-better-t8197.html et Solar-thermal / drain-back solar-self-emptying t12645.html)
- Mosses and molds (externally it is fairly easy to clean but much more difficult internally: the water used must be very sterile)

In addition, polycarbonate is no longer "given" at all ...

Better to use EPDM which is not transparent therefore (like flexible pool panels ...), see: Solar-thermal / who-with-hot-from-EPDM-to-pool-t7783.html

Otherwise, a real copper panel with window and pressure holding as it should be 150-200 € / m2 currently ... so not at all that DIY is still interesting ...

Thank you for this precious information Christophe. Do you know who tried the experiment?

Not specifically but research on forums gives these 2 subjects give a lot of information on the PC used in solar panel (not great):

Thanks for the links. Too bad, I did not see what it gave to the final.
