The death of the "small" Internet for the benefit of web 2.0 giants ...

This sentence is very interesting and emblematic of our time.
The world of NICT (new technology and information and communication) obeys - like everything else besides - the evolutionary laws.
Here in this case r / K law : Arrow: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod%C3%A8le_%C3%A9volutif_r/K
This basic law from biology applies perfectly to the world of economics.

For simplicity:the selection r favors small organizations (small businesses, startups, small sites like eco) in times of instability.
the selection K will favor the big monopolies (the giants of the Google web type) in stable phases.
The concept of stability / instability is to be understood both in terms of the general economic context or as is the case here in a limited field like the Internet.
At its internet beginnings to favor startups, because it was necessary to innovate quickly in a very unstable context (many did not believe in the internet), now it is the opposite, the net is essential and the phenomenon of monopolization favors the giants ...
To survive in such a context, it is therefore necessary to orient oneself towards niche or ultra-niche sectors by creating new concepts which will shake up the deal.

What is unfortunate in such an environment is that monopolization promotes mass culture with tasteless content ... hence the success of Facebook and so on ... :(

Ah no, it's not your fault! No more than the small carpenter who closes his shop because of ikéa ...

The best placed to say it is himself.
But for the web, in my humble opinion it is pretty illusory to believe that you can fight since it is not on a level playing field.
The web is, for small structures that can afford it, a prestigious showcase. Counting on the web to shoot without anything else, you really have to have a niche that no one else offers.

We simply cannot " believe that we will get there », Hope gives life, but is that to be classified as error?
The answer is in the question.

In any case, in a market economy, there is necessarily a race to the bottom. If you go looking for trouble you'll find it.

With smartphones and tablets, very easy to use but with limited functionality, the internet has become a mass consumer media, like TV.
The only thing I find good on the internet today is youtube where some channels are great. Other than that, facebook, tweeter and other "must-see" things that have appeared in recent years just don't interest me.

I quote myself to update my post.
YouTube, the only thing that liked about this internet 2.0 is also going to become tasteless: http://www.numerama.com/pop-culture/192 ... endly.html
One step closer to internet TV viewing :(

Thank you for the info: this is one more step towards editorial control of the net since Youtube will therefore no longer remunerate popularity if the content does not fall within an "editorial line" ...

Question: what is this editorial line?

I vaguely have an idea for an answer ... : Cry:

videos on youtube pose the same problem as images with any image host: it disappears when it wants

the video trap is that it's bigger so more expensive to host in its own server

conclusion video should only be used when there is a real need for a video: I prefer that the explanation be written than spoken in a video
