Velleman K8200: mechanical and electronic improvements

by Christophe » 16/03/14, 12:26

The printer 3D K8200 Velleman is a good machine, a quality / price ratio ...

However, it presents some points it is easy to improve with the community around this machine

I think it is much easier to work on the K8200 than for the "cube" printers at 2500-3000 € ...

For this site Thingiverse is very useful: http://www.thingiverse.com/search/page:11?q=k8200&sa=

I mounted mine last week and I will share the results of the improvements that I intend to make, will be the 1ères:

a) Add a cooling cone: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:262849

b) Strengthen the engine mounting Z: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:144813

c) Attach a cooling fan on the motherboard: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:233369

I also put the tape on the bed as shown in the above video, it fits well ... too well so must take off objects with a spatula!

b) + d) increased print quality, see trends here: https://www.econologie.com/forums/k8200-mes- ... 13150.html

Hello Christopher,

I read your articles on k8200 and I wanted to ask you some questions about it. After all the improvements you made to your printer, how accurate are you compared to drawing the computer? Many forum talks about the problem of "play" of the y / x axis and especially the z axis, have you found a solution? And to finish, velleman recently released a new printer, the k8400, have you had the opportunity to test it or to have eco? If you had to advise me to buy a printer, which one would you advise me?

Thank you to answer, I expect a lot of this mail.

Z axis ....

by K8200man » 06/10/15, 15:46

The change with the most visible effect is the addition of a flexible coupler on the Z axis If in addition you can add a trapezoidal screw ....

People have tried the upgrade they K8203? What does he think over a head E3D V6?

I haven't tested the K8203 but "on paper" the results look impressive: http://www.velleman.eu/products/view/?id=420498

The E3D V6 looks nice too ...

Sorry I had not seen this question at the time.

While the main weakness of the K8200 was on the Z axis X and Y was quite correct. Velleman offers a reinforcement kit for the Z axis now.

The K8400 model works better (of course it's an evolution) but I have not had the opportunity to test it personally ...

The upgrade to the Z axis velleman really changes things, by cons, it is expensive to the threaded rod, coupler and trapezoidal nut.
I unfortunately found no user of the new extrusion head K8203. It is the last major mods that I can bring to my printer!

Why are you talking about the past of the K8200 Christophe? You're on another machine?

The K8400 actually looks interesting, but the price is also higher!

I built a K8200 in spring 2014 but actually I put the thing aside ... Because I had other priorities and above all I did not find really ecological applications except "trinkets "... this despite this dedicated topic: https://www.econologie.com/forums/idees-econ ... 13134.html

If you have ideas that can motivate me to be back into action :) You seem very interested in something, you can show us what you did with?

Yes the K8400 is more expensive but the K8200 has fallen too ...

No idea for the head, I did not even see that she was available (mea culpa) ... at least on paper this seems to improve the finish ... If you do not know where to buy it, I can order you one via the website shop, contacts me in MP, I will make you a price.
