Davos: The bosses believe in the fable of global warming and sound the alarm

by GuyGadebois » 15/01/20, 18:40

Decision makers who say they are worried about the environment

More precisely, the threats weighing on the climate and the environment represent in their eyes all the main risks over the next 10 years, while "economic confrontations" and "domestic political polarization" are recognized as significant risks during 2020. The likelihood of extreme weather events, as well as the inability of governments and the business community to prevent climate change, would be their main long-term concerns.

Respondents are also alarmed by "damage and disasters caused by humans, such as oil leaks or radioactive contaminations". Then come the concern around a "significant loss of biodiversity and a collapse of the ecosystem (terrestrial or marine) with irreversible consequences for the environment, resulting in seriously depleted resources for humanity as well as industries". Finally, in the fifth of the risks classified as the most probable, we find "major natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and geomagnetic storms".

Afterwards, can we still believe these people? We'll see...

Why specify "the fable" in the title?

Obviously everyone is generally against global warming, it's a story of image! There are just the trump, the old lepen and co who can afford not to be ... given the state of their image, that will not change much ...

Even Chirac was in 2002: we remember the house is burning, which could have made the news given the fires in Australia!

Only between fine words and beliefs ... and concrete actions, there is a chasm ...

Wait for the facts before talking about greenwashing, if the goal is to take into account the carbon footprint, the depletion of resources, the safeguarding of biodiversity ..., then yes these companies have a future.

It is also true that with a title without tail or head, there is no risk of moving in the right direction.

As I posted on FS:

It's normal that they think that, if they have the same advisers as our former minister of ecology.

To have the end of the story:

https://twitter.com/ThomasSotto/stat...27303790178305

the interesting is not the tweet but the comments, and in particular the link on it:

https://ourworldindata.org/natural-disasters

Funny to see a herald of THE SCIEEEENNNCE say absolutely anything in front of a journalist who quietly reminds him of objective figures. It should be said that Abnousse Shalmani is not cold in the eyes, feminist of a family which escaped the Iranian mullahs, she saw others in my opinion, and is not particularly impressed, nor by the fundamentalists nor by more or less macho threats.

I haven't followed the case, I don't know who the bad guy is ... but this graph seems piped to me: Where are the more than 200 Tsunami dead in 000?

Also at the moment, there is a beautiful famine in progress in Yemen, it does not appear on this graph which stops in 2016 ...

https://www.franceculture.fr/geopolitiq ... -la-famine

https://www.mediapart.fr/journal/intern ... nglet=full

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine_au_Y%C3%A9men

Yemen is affected by a famine severely affecting more than 11,3 million Yemenis4, including at least 400 children000. And more than 5 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid22,2, including at least 6,4 children under the age of five100. for a total population of Yemen of 000 million people. More than 7 Yemeni children have already died of this famine and 28 die from it every day (November 50) 000. This situation is aggravated by an epidemic of cholera affecting more than 130 million people2017 and more than 8 new cases are recorded every day. Nearly 1,1 Yemenis4,9 have already died from cholera5 (June 000).
