You are sharp on certain points and you make the ass on others it is impressive.
The profits are not used to finance research, this is what ultimately remains for shareholders.
A profit is what remains after all research is understood.
As for research in bad shape in the pharmaceutical field, it is precisely that the majors of the pharmacy do not do that much research as soon as they hold a medoc they value it to the maximum (crazy margins) and now they go a lot through the university sector to get results at lower cost.
