Grapefruit: an ally for your arteries and your health

Grapefruit, one of the most powerful citrus fruits for your arteries, your health and your weight

It would lower cholesterol as effectively as cholestyramine, a drug prescribed to lower blood cholesterol. However, avoid consuming it with certain medications.

It would be the presence of a polysaccharide discovered in the pectin of grapefruit which would be the therapeutic principle of this fruit.

According to studies on individuals with high blood cholesterol, the daily consumption of 15g of grapefruit pectin over a period of four months caused an average fall of 8% and going up to 20%, in certain cases, their cholesterol levels.

It seems that the fruit pulp is even more effective than pectin alone, because it contains other chemicals, such as vitamin C, which increase the effects of certain compounds.

Fighting atherosclerosis

In addition to lowering cholesterol it seems that certain substances present in grapefruit would dissolve the atherosclerotic plaque, responsible for atherosclerosis, and thereby reduce the risk of cardiovascular accident.

It would be galacturonic acid, contained in the chemical components of grapefruit, which would exert a particular action on bad cholesterol (LDL), one of the elements constituting plaques causing hardening of the arteries. This interaction would dislodge and expel accumulations of cholesterol and clean the arteries.

Among the many substances found in grapefruit, very powerful antioxidants, such as lycopene, the benefits of which are known, particularly in protecting against prostate cancer, limonoids and naringin. These substances can help relieve symptoms caused by colds and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Research has shown that limonoids increase the levels of certain enzymes that help detoxify carcinogens and promote their excretion.

Grapefruit is one of the few foods to provide the required daily value of vitamin C in a single serving.
When consuming grapefruit, promote the whole fruit and not just the juice. The pulp and the white membranes that line the interior contain the most active principles of the fruit.

Losing weight

Grapefruit by lowering blood glucose levels lowers the production of insulin by the pancreas, while increasing the metabolism that helps burn fat.

A drink rich in enzyme complexes was formulated by Dr. Elson Haas, director of the Prevention Medical Center. This drink, based on 3 ingredients, has the effect of completely purifying the body and eliminating all the toxins accumulated in the tissues and which are an obstacle to the burning of excess fat. This drink also has the effect of stimulating the thyroid gland which is very often responsible for excess weight and the impossibility of losing weight. According to Dr. Haas, this drink allows you to lose up to 6kg (14lb) in 7 days.
The complete recipe for this drink, as well as other drink recipes, accompanies the Miracle Method of Losing Weight while Eating.

Watch out for drug interactions!

Grapefruit is an excellent food for your health, but if you are on medication it would be wise to inform yourself of a possible interaction.

It seems that the narginine present in grapefruit neutralizes an enzyme that helps metabolize certain drugs. When the drug is not metabolized quickly, more is absorbed into the body, which multiplies its effects. Narginine would not be present in any other fruit, at least not in the same proportions. The list of drugs affected by grapefruit is constantly growing, so it is more prudent, when you are on medication, to seek advice from your pharmacist or in doubt to avoid consumption of grapefruit.

indeed all these fruits, these plants in general, have multiple medicinal virtues that everyone can adapt to their needs. " let your food be your medicine and your medicine your food"hippocrates.
By cons we will hardly find such a list (see no list at all) on the benefits of the bidoche while the list is long of its harms including facilitating the cancerization of tissues and organs.
