Symptoms in children according to a study last week:

Different symptoms in children

The results of a study, published Sept. 7, highlights symptoms experienced in children or described by parents. Although less affected and for the most part asymptomatic, children can show signs of the coronavirus. Scientists analyzed the symptom reports of 198 children who tested positive for Covid-19, out of 16 tested. According to their results, they claim that more than half of children are symptomatic: 55% are very tired and 54% have headaches. Regarding sore throats, they are felt by 38% of children against 35% who have a loss of appetite (they skipped a meal). Finally, 15% of children have a skin rash and 13% are victims of diarrhea. The aim of this study is to determine the symptoms of the new coronavirus according to age, in order to warn doctors and parents, so as not to miss a possible infection in children.
A single symptom may be a sign of the disease in the child

With the start of the school year, each year parents are required to consult the doctor for mild illnesses, such as the common cold. However, they are now seeing unusual symptoms, such as skin lesions. Usually, reddish and purplish, raised bumps in the skin may appear, on the fingers and toes. They are similar to frostbite and are itchy. Not all children have skin changes, but Covid-19 can manifest itself in this way alone (1 in 6 children, according to Prof. Tim Spector). It is not easy to differentiate the clinical signs of a cold from those of the coronavirus. For this reason, in the slightest doubt, parents are advised to consult a health professional. It is important to highlight the results of this study, to reduce the risk of epidemics in schools: “what we want to do here is not to push [the children] to be tested, but simply to keep them away from school [if they show symptoms], ”said the Professor.

"What we want to do here is not push [the children] to be tested, but just keep them away from school [if they have symptoms]"

If these instructions are applied here, I promise a great upsurge! : Cheesy:

We didn't get out of this shit ...

Covid-19: A hypothesis suggests "a silent wave" of neurological disorders linked to the coronavirus

Australian scientists have hypothesized the possible occurrence of a third wave of Covid-19. They suggest that neurological disorders possibly associated with Covid-19 could become more frequent after the pandemic.

The most characteristic symptom of patients suffering from Covid-19 is respiratory distress, but others also experience neurological disorders ranging from anosmia to encephalitis. Coronaviruses are known for neurotropism, that is, their ability to infect nerve cells through different pathways. The presence of neurological symptoms in Covid patients also seems to make SARS-CoV-2, a betacoronavirus, a neurotropic virus.

The isolated case of a 25-year-old woman points in this direction. Tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the patient presented with very moderate respiratory symptoms and no fever, but anosmia. An MRI scan of her brain revealed an alteration in the posterior region of the gyrus rectus in the cerebral cortex and in the olfactory bulb. These changes resolved after 28 days.

As a result, researchers at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health in Australia offer a hypothesis worth sharing. Based on the neurological damage of some Covid patients and the possible neurotropism of SARS-CoV-2, they suggest that the pandemic could continue, in the form of a third wave, not of infections, but of neurodegenerative diseases . The study published in Journal of Parkinson's Disease focuses more specifically on Parkinson's disease and parkinsonian syndromes.

Inflammation, a trigger for Parkinson's disease?

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. It slowly progresses from uncontrolled tremors to cognitive impairment. The elements that trigger it are still unknown but they are surely multiple. Australian scientists point to inflammation of neurons as one of the possible triggers for Parkinson's.

In the brains of patients, an increased amount of players in the complement system - a pathway of innate immunity that generates a cascade of reactions resulting in the cytolysis of a cell or pathogen - has been observed in areas of the brain where neurons die. Among the hypotheses put forward on the origin of this inflammation, there is the viral hypothesis.

Viruses and neuroinflammation

Several viruses cause neurological complications, such as Zika which is associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome. The Covid-19 also. For Parkinson's disease, certain viral infections (Coxsackie viruses among others) are suspected of increasing the risk of the disease developing, without this being formally proven. Indeed, as mentioned above, it is a multifactorial disease.

To illustrate this, Australian scientists mention the famous influenza epidemic of 1918. In the years that followed, cases of lethargic encephalitis increased, especially in winter. Difficult to study the origin of this condition in the 1920s but, among the possible environmental or immune causes, a hypothesis suggests that the cause would be a neurotropic virus.

The circumstances point to the H1N1 virus as a potential suspect. The authors also indicate that this wave of lethargic encephalitis disappeared in the 1940s, a few years after the disappearance of H1N1. Obviously, all these remain assumptions which have not been confirmed by the scientific method.

A third wave of Covid-19

Many patients with Covid-19 considered to be cured still suffer from fatigue, shortness of breath or anosmia that has not resolved. The authors of this hypothesis then suggest that other health problems linked to Covid-19, such as a third wave of symptoms, could appear. Covid-19 could be, in the long term, associated with a degradation of Parkinson's in people already ill or with the appearance of neurological disorders associated with Parkinson's or with parkinsonian syndromes.

“We believe that anosmia represents a new way of early detection of a person at risk of developing Parkinson's disease. Based on the knowledge which indicates that anosmia is present in 90% of people in the early phase of Parkinson's and ten years before motor symptoms, we believe that we are on the right track ”, explains Leah Beauchamp, researcher at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health in a press release.

To follow this "third wave" and collect scientific data, the scientists propose to create a registry of Covid patients who have experienced long-term neurological disorders and to have them undergo blood tests to determine the presence or not of neurofilaments that sign a possible neurodegeneration.

Note that the neurological effects have already been clearly visible and noticeable for a few months on social networks ...
