France is preparing to enter an ecological deficit Cédric Soares the 04 / 05 / 2018 Usiine New
According to a report published Friday May 4 by the NGO WWF in partnership with the research institute Global Footprint Network, France will enter the "ecological deficit" Saturday 5 May. The document places France among the ten countries in the world that reach this threshold earlier this year. Our country is declining on the indicator since 2015, after a period of improvement started in 2008. From May 5, France will enter "ecological deficit". In other words, if the whole world lived like the French, the Earth would have consumed all the natural resources that the planet can renew in a year. The information comes from a report published on May 4 by the WWF in partnership with the Global Footprint Network.
Each year the NGO and the research institute calculate this day of inflection for 200 countries as well as "the day of the planetary overrun" which is a meter stallion. In 2017, the latter was reached on August 2. France is therefore in deficit three months before the world average. According to the report, it "ranks among the leading countries in Europe", and more broadly in the ten countries in the world reaching the overtaking day earlier in the year.

Among the major economic powers, the United States (14 March), Russia (20 April) and Germany (1er May) are doing worse than France, while the United Kingdom (7 May), Japan ( 9 may), and China (14 June) do better.
According to the study, it would 2,9 Earth if the whole of humanity drew its consumption on that of the Hexagon. Once again, France is well above the global average evaluated at 1,7 Terre for several years.
France consumes 1,8 times its natural resources each yearBy relying only on the natural resources of France, the country consumes 1,8 times the biocapacity that the territory can provide. In all, we have accumulated the equivalent of 33 years of ecological debt since 1961. Over the same period, the overtaking day changed from 30 September to 5 May. While the indicator had recorded a steady progression between 2008 and 2015 (year of the COP21), it has been deteriorating ever since.
Finally, in 2018, the carbon footprint is 56% the most important component of the ecological footprint in France. It is followed by crop footprint (20%), forest products (11%), pastures (5%), built-up areas and fishing areas (4% each). By reporting the ecological footprint to French consumption, the report finds that it comes from two-thirds of activities related to housing, transportation and food. The remaining third comes from other goods and services such as entertainment, telecommunications or financial services.
