yes the limit of proportion of the mixture is very wide: with other gas, a flame far enough does not light because the gas arrives too diluted ... with the hydrogen even if it arrives until the flame very diluted that pete

so we can understand that the hydrogen is scary

and it would be a joke if we used hydrogen as a motor fuel: in case of a big leak it could go very far for a spark to ignite

Qatar: start of the largest helium unit in the world

09 July 2013 Enerzine

Air Liquide announced yesterday the commissioning of the world's largest helium purification and liquefaction unit, a turnkey project based in the Ras Laffan industrial area in Qatar.

The production capacity of this new unit is approximately 38 million cubic meters of helium per year. Operated by RasGas, this helium liquefier that measures 20 meters long and over 8 meters high is the largest in the world. The technologies used to purify and liquefy helium at very low temperatures (-269 ° C) are technologies patented by Air Liquide.

The total production capacity of this new unit and the unit already in service on this site will reach approximately 58 million cubic meters per year, making Qatar the second largest helium producer in the world, with 25% of current world production.

As part of a long-term contract with RasGas and Qatargas, Air Liquide has planned to purchase 50% of the helium volumes produced by this new unit and the existing unit.

According to Air Liquide, the commissioning of this unit will lead to greater stability of the helium market. Indeed, since 10 years, global demand remains strong while helium is a rare gas on a planetary scale. Helium plays a key role in a large number of applications, for example: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), semiconductors, fiber optic cables, space exploration, scientific research, production airbags and professional diving.

"This" Helium 2 "project, launched in May 2010, is the second helium project carried out in Qatar. We are delighted to be able to announce that, out of more than 5 million hours worked for its realization, we did not have no lost-time accident. Such a performance illustrates RasGas' desire to ensure a safe working environment within the framework of a complex construction project which has mobilized thousands of subcontractors and employees "declared Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi , CEO of RasGas and Vice-President of Qatar Petroleum (QP).

Helium at Ras Laffan, Qatar

After the discovery of the huge North Field deposit in the early 70 years and the creation of Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited RL in the industrial area of Ras Laffan in 90 years, Qatar has decided to install a unit whose objective is to recover the helium contained in the incondensable gases extracted from the liquefaction units of natural gas.

Even present at rates of the order of 0,05%, helium now offers a real economic interest in view of the size of the North Field deposit.

Algeria: Sonatrach and Air Products Sign Two Production and Delivery Agreements for Industrial Gas (Helium)

Ecofin Agency 16 nov 2018

Friday, the industrial gas operator Air Products announced that it has signed two agreements with Sonatrach production and delivery of helium. The agreements were negotiated in a joint venture called Helios and controlled by both parties.

With a combined value of 100 million, the two agreements will allow Sonatrach to recover helium from two liquefied natural gas plants GL1Z and GL3Z in Arzew. The fuel will then be delivered by the Helios liquid helium plant located in the region, before being sold to mainly European customers.

If the future production capacity has not been mentioned, it seems clear that the volume of liquid helium produced on site should increase significantly.

"We are very pleased to make our investments jointly with Sonatrach and to build on the success of our partnership with Helios. These latest agreements reflect our continued commitment and willingness to invest in the Algerian industrial gas market, bringing more competitiveness, security of supply and better service to our customers. ", Commented Ahmed Hababou, vice President, Southern Europe and Maghreb, of Air Products.

Sonatrach sees the move as part of Sonatrach's Vision for Growth, which includes a multi-billion dollar investment program to develop Algeria's gas sector and energy infrastructure.

The Helios plant accounts for a significant portion of Air Products' global helium portfolio. With Sonatrach, Air Products is, for more than 25 years, one of the European leaders in industrial gas.

The Russians will produce helium from their gigantic gas treatment plant.

See this post from 30 January 2019 http://www.oleocene.org/phpBB3/viewtopi ... 5#p2279755

Confirmation here also of August 16 2019

.....
In parallel with the construction of the Siberian Force and the main extractive fields, therefore, was built the most important gas treatment plant in the world near Blagoveshchensk, in the region of Amur. With a footprint of 600 hectares and creating 3 000 jobs, it will have an annual production capacity of 49 Mds of m3 of ethane, propane, butane and pentane-hexane, in addition to a specific helium production site with a capacity of 60 M. of m3 per year. Start-up will be synchronized with the launching of the Tchaiandinskoie, Kovyktinskoie and Siberian Gas Pipelines, the latter becoming one of the key elements of the gas supply system in eastern Russia.
