The imposture of the Nobel Prize for Economics!

by Christophe » 14/10/14, 17:20

It is topical, the Nobel Prize in economics has just been awarded to the French Jean Tirole, here is his portrait:

Jean Tirole has just been awarded the Nobel Prize in economics. Here is the portrait that "Le Journal du CNRS" devoted to him in 2007, the year he received the CNRS gold medal. This came to reward an already very rich work, ranging from the economics of new industries to psychology. (...)

But the Nobel Prize in economics is, apparently, not official, it is a sham according to this article: http://www.monde-diplomatique.fr/2005/0 ... RSON/11930

Nobel Prize in economics, the sham
by Hazel Henderson, February 2005

An unusual quarrel has recently rocked the hushed atmosphere of the Nobel Prize. The voice of Mr. Peter Nobel, one of the heirs of the founder Alfred Nobel, was added to the concert of protests by an increasing number of scientists against the confusion surrounding the "Bank of Sweden prize in economics in memory of Alfred Nobel ". Since its establishment by the Swedish Central Bank in 1969, this $ 1 million prize has been confused with real Nobel Prizes, to the point that it is often mistakenly referred to as the "Nobel Prize in Economics" (and , in English, Nobel Memorial Prize).

The article detailed how some economists, including several recipients of the Bank of Sweden award, had misused mathematics by creating models of unrealistic social dynamics.

"In Alfred Nobel's correspondence, we never find the slightest mention of an award in economics," said Mr. Peter Nobel in an exclusive interview. The Royal Bank of Sweden has laid its egg in the nest of another very respectable bird, thereby infringing the Nobel “registered trademark”. Two-thirds of the Bank of Sweden awards went to American economists at the Chicago school, whose mathematical models are used to speculate in the equity markets - contrary to the intentions of Alfred Nobel, who heard improve the human condition. I had mentioned, by the way, in an old post in which it was about Maurice Allais which seemed to be haloed, in the eyes of some, of a glory which I thus reduced to a more just measure ...
