Jean Ziegler: "Empire of shame"

by jean63 » 26/02/08, 23:51

Do you know Jean Ziegler?

1 - Wikipedia: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Ziegler

He is the Special Rapporteur for the Right to Food (Populations) of the United Nations Human Rights Council from 2000 to March 2008. He was chosen in 2000 and 2003 but he will not present himself to his 2008 succession because he applies to one of the (3 on 18) positions 'reserved' to the Western group within the Council of Human Rights. His candidacy is officially supported by Switzerland. [4] As Special Rapporteur, he has studied the level of nutrition of the populations of many countries (Niger, Ethiopia, India, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Brazil, Palestine, Guatemala, ...). Reports on the state of food and malnutrition in these countries are available on the United Nations website [5], [6]

Writer
Jean Ziegler took part in the work of recognition of the theft of bank accounts (in Switzerland) of deportees for the benefit of Nazi Germany. [7] His work is described in his book: "Switzerland, Gold and the Dead" (1997, Seuil editions). He explains how Swiss bankers helped finance the Nazi war machine. Jean Ziegler is the author of several books on globalization and on what he calls crimes committed in the name of global finance and capitalism, condemning in particular the alleged role of Switzerland. He writes in French and German.

Controversies
A controversy arose in the early 1989s when Jean Ziegler suggested that the federal government invite Muammar Gaddafi to Switzerland. When asked, Ziegler confirms that Gaddafi invited him several times "because my books are translated into Arabic and he reads them". He admitted to having been consulted, just like other European intellectuals, when Libya wanted to create a human rights prize in 1989. Today Ziegler says that at the time, "he supported the prize because it represented a step towards an opening. " Time Magazine described him (in 8) as a member of the Gaddafi Prize jury. [9] Jean Ziegler denied having created this prize, having financed it, having received the prize or having been part of the jury. [XNUMX]

Still a great job by food multinationals who starve people to force others to make them dependent on their business : Shock:

It's not nice progress?

After reading or listening to what J. Ziegler says, you will not see food as before !!!!

I found an article on alterinfo that deals with these topics and there is another one where the author says they are trying to patent the traditional seed. I know Ziegler and in fact he has everything planned 10 years ago what happens today. here is the link

I have known for a while I bought his book: "The new masters of the world" the themes are more or less the same as in "the empire of shame" ...

His position on AGROfuels is categorical:

There is one thing that bothers me about J. Ziegler. The fact of denouncing the refeodalisation of the world, and all the atrocities committed in the name of the sacrosanct "$" he sells, like any commodity. I suspect that this is only a promising niche for him ...
Even if it only states real facts, why does it not broadcast freely on the net, if it calls for revolution? Because that's what he preaches in the "empire of shame". I would say that misery, as for those he denounces, is his business, even if all work deserves a salary and this work must have been enormous. But it does not affect many people through the "book-product" vector.
I would believe more in his sincerity, if he published his works free of charge, for a much wider distribution. The "pdf" format costs nothing !!! He reminds me of those bourgeois of the French Revolution who pushed the people to rebel in order to serve them better ... Even if I welcome his initiatives ...

But I prefer a guy who is tune awake people rather than writing a book about the sex life of sarko or a psychoanalysis of StarAkaMerdique ... Although in the 2ieme case it could be interesting ...

This is taken from the program "further investigation" of FR which passes after 23 p.m. (it's better: few people watch at this time => hence awareness of the people = 0, .. ..).

I look almost always except impediment and I missed that one! pe looked at another interesting on ARTE?

It is obvious that we should stop producing agrofuels from food, but the machine is well launched and the grain are rubbing their hands and put their pockets full: several recent reports bear witness. Some milk producers stop to start grain production.

But where are we going?

+100 : Cheesy:

It does not prevent me from thinking that his writings would be more effective published on the net (at least for his recent publications), and since it is Switzerland, it is a safe bet that even asking for only 1 € symbolic for the download of a work, it could be otherwise winner ...
