The term "ecology" has 2 meanings, the one you indicate, Sen-no-sen:
... science which aims at the study of ecosystems ...

but also that related to political ecology, ie. relationships of men * with nature et his nature.

* I specify well "of the men" and not "of the man", expression which would imply a unity of thought and of action which does not exist.
