Discover Econology… or how to save money with ecology
This is the new environmental concept of the moment: being green and economical without necessarily giving up modern comfort. Here are seven small, very simple gestures for living “econologically”.
1- Cooking: fight the frost
Is your freezer looking like an ice pack? Please note that the accumulated frost increases the consumption of electricity. Sold in appliance stores or on the Internet, anti-icing mats, to be placed in the freezer or freezer, avoid the problem. And as a bonus, goodbye to the defrosting chore!
2- Water: think of economical taps
On sale in DIY stores, these small nozzles to screw on the kitchen and bathroom taps limit the flow of water. In the end, a saving on the water bill which can go up to 15%. As for the toilets, equip them with a dual control flush. This device is now adaptable to older models and can save you up to 35% of water.
3- Layout: succumb to the beauty of "LEDs"
After the low-consumption lamps, a new generation is coming: light-emitting diodes, more generally called "leds". Once reserved for gardens or architectural layouts, these economical lamps have recently become established in our homes. With the progress of the past few years, some of them look like classic bulbs today and the light output is almost identical to that of our old incandescent bulbs. Advantage: they consume five to six times less electricity than a conventional bulb, emit much less heat and have a lifespan up to thirty times longer.
4- Maintenance: rediscover the black soap
Inexpensive and ecological, black soap lends itself to multiple uses. It was known to be effective in detaching, degreasing, cleaning and protecting tiled or marble floors, tiles or parquet floors, but it also does wonders for cleaning up gardens and enclosed spaces. Apply a mixture of 40 g of black soap diluted in 1 liter of hot water to the surface. This mixture acts as a fungicide.
5- Electronic equipment: choose a “low voltage” computer
The transition from a fixed computer station to a laptop already significantly reduces the need for electricity. To go further, bet on the new less greedy ranges by opting for a computer bearing the acronym ULV (ultra low voltage). No more expensive to buy, these machines work economically.
6- Garden: sow
Do you like your garden to be flowered in summer? To avoid spending a fortune on plants, become a farmer. Nothing is simpler: collect the seeds and bulbs of the wilted flowers of the previous year (carnations, for example), plant them before winter (sheltered) in small pots. They will be ready to be transplanted in fine weather. Another econological gesture of the garden: favor perennial plants which resist frost well. Some perennials are able to flourish in difficult conditions (stony ground, etc.), such as viperine, St. John's wort or poppy.
7- Leisure: turn the dynamo
There are alternative systems to traditional disposable batteries. In addition to the essential rechargeable battery charger, you can go further in the economy by favoring devices that do not require batteries and are recharged with a dynamo system. Just turn the crank to fill up on energy. A principle to adopt for flashlights, small portable radios or even MP3.
