I create this post to exchange and discuss free software (not to mention OS please) or free interesting.
1) I start with a classic for those who do not yet have Open Office which "replaces" MS Office (except for Publisher and PowerPoint which it can only read)
http://fr.openoffice.org/
download: http://fr.openoffice.org/about-downloads.html
2) Test your hard drive: HDtune http://www.hdtune.com/
download: http://www.hdtune.com/download.html
3) Anti Intrusion: PeerGuardian
download: http://telecharger.yacapa.com/telecharg ... -1225.html
This app includes 2 blocking system:
1) by IP (the most important)
2) by HTML
The activation of 2) can block access to certain sites ... including econology (because of nasty advertising ...) ... but everything can be "authorized" or not ...
4) Skype: chat software or IP phone or VOIP (to real line for a paid subscription): http://www.skype.com/intl/fr/
Here is to start ...
Open Source software or free to download

openoffice has the merit of being free, of course, but what is slow ......
not to mention that often when you open a word document by openoffice, (or vice versa) you lose fonts and formatting and other celebrations of the same kind

for example, scroll through the spreadsheet boxes from top to bottom to compare.

antivirus Avast is super quiet.
Update at startup, valid for two months, then going to the site, a key is given by email, and the validity is permanent.
I had Norton pay in time, it was great, but after some cleanings, it was missing things in the computer.
Then my company-epic provided a Mc Affee version, gratos.
It was fine, but from time to time, when it was updated, it got stuck, and to get out of it, you had to uninstall and reinstall ...
Avast is a bit long when you scan your hard drives. But I rarely do it, since it turns out well.
--------------
Regularly, although tedious, I do a cleaning:
I remove cookies, I deratoze with Ad-Aware SE Personal, then with SpyBot-Search and Destroy. I clean the registry with Reg Cleaner (which is also handy for checking programs on startup and remove them from boot without having to reset the computer).
I'm doing a record cleaning. And that suits me well ...
If there is a better faster or more comprehensive method, I'm interested.

The advantage of OpenOffice is the ability to export documents directly in pdf, including having active hyperlinks, things that printer imitators like pdfcreator or others do not.
In firewall, I use kerio which is free:

As a free firwall, I recommend "Sygate personal firewall".
Compared to its free competitors (ZoneAlarm, for example), it is much more configurable.
Ports can be managed port by port, program by program and even by protocol.
In addition, it is provided with a user interface to constantly see what programs and / or their connections are trying to access the net (that's how I discovered that BitTorrent could open up to a XNumber of simultaneous connections).
This interface also presents in real time the incoming and outgoing traffic in the form of 2 curves which is very practical when you want to check if "something is going through the pipes".

Unearthing subject because I'm looking for a print management software to manage the amount of ink precisely and save cartridges and to print in black and white (some printer do not offer original ). I know it exists but I can not find it ...
I found FinePrint but it was another 100% freeware I thought: http://www.fineprint.com/products/fineprint/index.html
Otherwise 2 other links:
1) The Free Software Bible: http://www.framasoft.net/ (not pkoi it does not appear in this subject)
2) For those who like to know where they are personal budget level: http://www.grisbi.org/index.fr.html (equivalent of MS Money)
