Like other companies before it, Facebook changes its name to make people forget the controversies
Don't call it Facebook anymore. The parent company of Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger has just been renamed Meta by its founder Mark Zuckerberg. This name change should, according to him, guide the group towards the "metavers", a future ultra-immersive universe which is based on virtual reality. But the "timing" of this announcement makes many doubt. For many, Facebook is trying to get out of the zone of turbulence it is going through by creating a diversion as the group is overwhelmed by controversy.

This is why Occulus (therefore Facebook) apparently sells the Quest 2 at a loss ... And it is true that compared to the competition it is the best autonomous headset in terms of quality / price ...except that you need a facebook account to use it (oh well, I don't see the connection ...) ...

Re: The danger of Facebook and (a) social networks
The objective of metaverse is to create a virtual world parallel to ours in order to lock the user in an ever stronger dependence on the universe of Gafa.It is also a palliative to the dismal existence of a large number of individuals ( unemployment, confinement, social and economic degradation).
The other essential aspect is the implementation of a parallel economy likely to contribute to the real zombie economy.
It is likely that users of the metaverse will have access to a virtual currency which will allow them "premium" access for the purpose of making "good deals" via the Gafa platforms.

It's done, it's seen, it's ... blah blah. Otherwise, there is a beautiful film about virtual worlds: Free Guy. I loved.
