Story of Stuff: Understanding the consumer society

by Christophe » 22/04/11, 12:22

On the occasion of the incomprehensible shutdown of Google Video (see https://www.econologie.com/forums/fin-des-vi ... 10711.html ) I try to save the most interesting videos that were included on the site.

Here is a great one on the society of over-consumption (consumption?): Story of stuff in VOST FR.

This video dates from 2009 and was the subject of a subject at the time but I prefer to remake one in "society and philosophy": https://www.econologie.com/forums/la-crise-n ... t8193.html just to revive the debate a little (if there is still something to say?)

To re-see here therefore:

wi, wi, must be specified that the two links correspond to episodes I & II

Almost perfect / complete, missing at least a few small interactions and a circular operating mode that we devne to this "Military-industrial model". The legal-banking system, with:
- the legislative system and its armed wing: the executive (politicians act well in an organized manner);
- the debt and the production of money by governments "under orders", since the captains of industry are present in governments (it is not as if they were spheres of influence outside the system, they make it integral part);
- speculation as a regulator by the sacrosanct law of the market, but also essential for the "Airplane game" regenerates ~ every ten years and devalues / recovers then revalues the assets / liabilities of this predation system. And woe to those who have abused it (ie the fall of the current dollar!)

... but all of this is extremely coherent. Well seen.

PS: still made me laugh with the feminist touch, with "The chemicals that are de facto found in breast milk". It is true, but food is not the only "entry point" for the body! With the tons of creams that they spread on the body and the layers of metallic paint as a gloss and make-up, it's not the manufacturers who force them to put some with a kalach 'in the back ...
Besides, men are also affected with the drastic drop in fertility (drop in vigor and quantity of semen)
