Energy: few will compete operators

Only a handful of local authorities have organized calls for tenders for the supply of gas and electricity, two markets open to competition since July 1, 2004. Almost all remain in fact customers of EDF and GDF, like authorized by law. Regulated tariffs, applied by incumbent operators, are to date more attractive than market prices. But they do not reflect the real cost of energy and constitute a distortion of competition, believes the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), which pleads for their eventual disappearance.
