The 1999 European 94 / 13 / CE directive of December 1999 makes mandatory the presence of a CO2 label on the places of sales of new cars in Europe. Several member countries were not satisfied with the original format of the label in the directive and wanted to provide more accurate information to the consumer by building their own label.
