Project report Echo-Motor 2 de l 'School of Mines of Douai.
We are a team of seven students, and are currently in the second year of training at the Ecole des Mines de Douai. We have chosen to work on a project in accordance with our areas of interest, and which integrates both technical and environmental aspects.
The group was formed around the idea of taking over and continuing a project started the previous year: the Echo-Motor project. The realization and testing of a 100% Pantone assembly having given mixed results, to say the least, we decided this year to manufacture and study a so-called “water doping” system on a diesel engine.
This “unofficially” efficient system would reduce both consumption and pollution. Faced with the quantity of results available and disseminated on the internet, but without information or guarantee on the conditions of realization, it seemed necessary to us to establish a rigorous approach in order to determine the real characteristics of this process, also called Gillier-Pantone.
Our contractor, who was both a major technical and financial partner in our project, is CRITT M2A in Bruay-la-Buissière, the Technical Innovation Research Center in Automotive Engines and Acoustics. He took charge of the cost of the parts necessary for the manufacture of the various parts of the Gillier-Pantone system and provided us with a test bench for carrying out the tests.
The Echo-Moteur² project consists in carrying out tests on a prototype of a "water doping" system. Beyond the technical aspect, a communication process was put in place to present our project, disseminate our approach and the results of our tests and the conclusions we drew from them through various media. We also participated in a forum and organized a conference during the Sustainable Development Week. The creation of a website appeared as an important step in the process of realization of our project. This last presents our whole approach, our realization as well as our results and decided to create a dynamic website on which Internet users could react through our guestbook.
This project was an opportunity for us to acquire knowledge through experimentation. At the end of our work, we can see that the prototype of the water doping system tested works but the gains on consumption are zero. These conclusions are to be placed in the context of the experiment and the generalization of the latter is not conceivable, the principle of doping with water in various forms may be more or less effective. It may be possible for a new team to continue research in the field of water doping.
