The cryptobiosis is a state of suspension of biological activity in which the intensity of internal processes fall to a fraction that can be very small, its usual level. It is a form of resistance that makes the animal cryptobiotic very resistant to cold, warm and particular time.

It can be considered as an extreme hibernation. Nematodes in an encysted state can remain more than ten years in a dry environment before finding his form of worm enjoying favorable living conditions that his host brought him. Rotifers and some insects and crustaceans are also capable of entering into cryptobiosis when the living conditions of their environment become difficult.
