All the important studies published recently predict that climate change - announced more than thirty years ago by several official reports, personalities and environmental associations - is inevitable and that it will be much faster than previously expected. To counter an impending catastrophe, teams of renowned scientists, backed by politicians, have devised science-fiction-worthy artificial cooling projects for the Earth, which worry many climatologists. Experimentation with some of these new technologies may have already started.
Climate change is racing and will soon get out of hand.
According to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC - IPCC) 1, the leading climate monitoring body, global warming during the 2st century will be between 5 and 8 ° depending on the scenarios. It could reach 11 ° or even 2003 °, according to a team of researchers from the University of Oxford. A radical change could occur in a single decade. This possibility is at the center of security problems in the United States. The report for the Pentagon "The scenario of abrupt climate change and its implications for the national security of the United States" prepared in XNUMX by Peter Schwartz, consultant to the CIA, and Doug Randall, of the Global Business Network, provides for famines, pandemics, riots and civil and inter-state wars for the appropriation of the last natural resources.
"Global warming is approaching the point of no return", warns the president of the IPCC, who adds that "there is no more a minute to lose ... it is the future of humanity that is at stake ". Eleven of the 2007 warmest years are in the past 12 years, and 000 could break all temperature records on record. According to James Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York, "current temperatures are in the upper range of those prevailing since the start of the Holocene 25 years ago." He continues: “If the total warming reaches two or three degrees Celsius, we will probably see changes that will make the Earth a different planet than the one we know. The first report of the National Observatory of Global Warming (ONERC), published in 2005, shows that warming is 50% greater in France than the average global warming, which should lead to "colossal consequences" for our country . The multiplication of extreme phenomena would bring "profound changes to the way of life of the French. "
Until now, we have only suffered the first signs of environmental disasters which should occur on a large scale: floods wiping off the map of many islands and certain countries, multiplication of cyclones, major shortages of drinking water, famines following an aggravation. droughts and desertification, drastic decrease in biodiversity (at least a quarter of terrestrial animal species and plants would be doomed to disappear by 2050), tropical diseases, pandemics push northwards, etc. According to the 4th IPCC report (February 2007), these events would lead to the migration of hundreds of millions of people around the world. These climate refugees will mainly come from the poorest and most vulnerable regions, such as coastal areas (where half of the world's population lives) and sub-Saharan Africa.
Global warming could be self-sustaining, due to the release of greenhouse gases trapped in permafrost (the soil of the polar regions permanently frozen), tropical forests and ocean sediments. Thus, for four years, and for the first time since the Ice Age, the immense Siberian frozen peat bog is turning into swamps, releasing billions of tons of methane (CH4), a greenhouse gas twenty times more powerful than CO2. The current "carbon sinks" could soon turn into sources, as was the case of the European continent in 2003: the growth of forests and plants, which absorb atmospheric carbon, had stopped due to the lack of water. (However, the summer of 2003 will be considered "cool" in 2050, according to a Météo France modeler). Likewise, the warming of the oceans - which has reached a depth of 3 km - is increasingly reducing their capacity to absorb CO2. This runaway could push the warming outside the current forecast ranges.
Without the opposite phenomenon of "global dimming", observed since the fifties (from 1950 to 1985, solar radiation at the earth's surface decreased globally by 8 to 30% - with significant disparities depending on the region of the world) and which has been reversed in recent years, global warming would be even more important.
A suicidal humanity, or the great food of oil
Rather than questioning the aberrant way of life of developed societies, which has become the disastrous model of "developing" societies, the authorities continue to reassure the public by offering illusory and often very polluting solutions - such as biofuels and cars. electric - and dangerous, as nuclear says "second generation" (in reality, an old and obsolete technology that has never worked). Whereas today, only a radical and immediate change of economic system, towards a model of “degrowth”, could save the planet.
For several decades, our rulers have remained deaf to the warnings of personalities and environmental associations, and alarmist reports (such as "Stop growth", the Meadows report ...). Their lack of political will to reduce waste and pollution, due to their fear of losing their sponsors (in the United States, mainly oil companies) or their electoral clientele, allied to the disinformation of the media "incorporated" into the system, led to the catastrophe now recognized as imminent by the most moderate climatologists. This irresponsible behavior today allows prominent scientists in the Establishment to justify the use of sorcerer's apprentice technologies.
Time-altering technologies: the promising market of the 21st century?
“Geoengineering” is a new technology, originally closely linked to the military sector. Physicist John Von Neumann began to work on climate manipulation just after World War II. At the end of the 1967s, the US Department of Defense invested in this area as part of a “shadow war” against the Soviet Empire, in particular to cause droughts that could destroy its crops. In XNUMX, the "Popeye" project applied to VietNam succeeded in prolonging the monsoon season by seeding the clouds with silver iodide to destroy the enemy's crops, prevent the movement of his troops and their supply along. of the Ho Chi Min trail.
At the same time, we began to use the same technique in the agricultural sector to locally increase rainfall. Since the 1960s, private weather modification companies have multiplied (among the oldest in the United States: Atmospherics Inc., created in XNUMX, or TRC North American Weather Consultants). Over a thousand projects have been filed in the United States and other countries around the world for several decades.
The Chinese, champions in this sector, have a Weather Modification Office (under the Chinese meteorological administration), whose current concern is to guarantee an ideal weather for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. As for Russian President Putin, it boasts of preparing a bright sun at every major official event. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), more than one hundred weather modification projects are being implemented today by dozens of countries.
But these climatic manipulations seem very harmless compared to those which are being studied at the planetary level. The two main institutions involved in these geoengineering programs are the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Stanford University (California), including Edward Teller, the father of the H-bomb, considered one of the most brilliant scientists of the twentieth century. , remained Director Emeritus until his recent passing.
