Two cargo ships, a bulk carrier and a chemical tanker, collided on Tuesday morning, January 31, off Cherbourg, in the Channel, said the maritime prefecture. The accident necessitated the evacuation of the 22 crew members of the chemical tanker.
While the two ships were following the same route, the bulk carrier, with 26 tonnes of phosphate on board, collided around 000 a.m. 3 kilometers west of Cherbourg with the chemical tanker, which was carrying 92 tonnes phosphoric acid.
