As you all know and see it, sustainable development is in “fashion”, a fashion that we obviously hope “sustainable”.
This trend concerns the national, regional and even municipal levels. “Everyone” therefore encourages citizens to save energy.
In these conditions, one thing can be shocking: the dismal (energy) equipment of certain buildings and public buildings.
Observe your town hall, your schools, your high schools ... if the construction is not modern, which is often the case, they are often energy gulfs.
We are not even thinking here of renewable energy equipment but of the waste of public money that is public energy expenditure. We will only mention 2 simple criteria: the frames and the lighting.
- In many cases it is still simple glazing, now "prohibited" in new constructions
- The economical light bulbs are quite rare although neon lights are still quite common in some institutions
Obviously all the big cities will show you some “new” buildings with low energy consumption and all the regions will show you and make you visit with pleasure (especially when there are journalists) a public wood-fired boiler or a large biogas project or solar.
Obviously… it gives a good political image but everyday life is much less green!
Practical example: the new building of the Alsace Regional Council is given by the media to be a “semi” bio climatic building.
Nevertheless, there is still a large majority of obsolete and energy obsolete buildings in operation which would drive any consultant in energy diagnosis crazy, starting with national education!
Governments and policymakers who advocate loud and clear for individuals to invest should perhaps start to lead by example, right? We are not talking about the construction of new buildings but about simple actions (what does the purchase of energy saving light bulbs cost?) And renovation. That is to say, bringing the current energy standards up to date (RT2005) by rehabilitating the buildings in function ...
On the other hand, it is our taxes that pay their energy losses, so as long as the financial balance is maintained, what good is it to reduce public charges? On the contrary, it would legitimize a tax reduction.
In this election period, there may still be time to challenge a few candidates on this matter… Think about it!
